Placement of Worth (Robe Destruction)

Placement of Worth (Robe Destruction), Toilet Paper, 2019

Placement of Worth (Robe Destruction) was a performance piece in which I wore one of my previous toilet paper pieces, Worth, in the rain.

I often struggle with my own worth. I tend to believe it is based on my ability, performance, or appearance. The performance helped me remember that my worth does not come from anything I do.

People ask how I felt seeing my work fall apart. The short answer: ecstatic. Letting go of something I made that was valuable in the eyes of others gave me the understanding that my work was not what made me valuable. When my worth is not based on my success, it means it is also not based on my failures. It was a moment where I felt free and overjoyed.
